It has come to my attention that there are lots of people out there that want no part of installing a small body lift to make room for our high-clearance skid plates.

In response to some requests for another option to accomodate a “No body-lift tummy tuck” we will be building any of our Transfer Case Skids in a slightly deeper configuration. We will add 1″ of total height to the skid. This will provide 1″ of ground clearance to a ’97-02 model or 1 1/2″ of clearance to the ’03-06 model. It will also add strength, ramped front an rear edges, a smooth flat surface to skid along on; and in the case of the 6061-T6 Aluminum skid, save weight over the factory shovel.

If you are looking for a Transfer Case Skid like this, simply order the standard skid on the website and COMMENT on the order to send a DEEP skid for use without a body lift.

These will be strictly “made to order”, so please allow a couple extra days for delivery.

1/4″ Aluminum Transfer Case Skids are NOW AVAILABLE! Final pricing has been published at $329.99. These skids save a tremendous amount of weight, over 50 lbs compared to similar 1/4″ steel skids. They actually weight less than the stock shovel. The savings in shipping costs can help pay for the increased cost of the aluminum. I believe these are the first production aluminum transfer case skids available for the Jeep TJ. Pictures will be posted tomorrow (1/14/2010). Get yours on order today. Click here to see our selection of Aluminum Skid Plates.

I will be creating new parts listings for Aluminum Transfer Case Skid Plates early this week. Final costs are now being calculated so I don’t have a price point yet. It will obviously be more expensive than the carbon steel versions. The 6061 Heat Treated Aluminum Skid Plates will only be available in 1/4″ thick plate. They will be reinforced in the middle from side to side by a cross member just as the steel versions are. The 1/4″ thick Aluminum Skid is a full 50lbs lighter than its Carbon and cousins but has just as much ability to take a hit. Expect to see them listed on the website very soon. Detailed pictures will be posted later this week.

Under Cover Fabworks has been building high-clearance skid plates for Jeep Wanglers for a while now. We have literally sold TONS of them. They are trail tested an proven. You can order the skid made from 3/16″ steel for the “mall-crawler” daily driver rigs or you can upgrade to 1/4″ plate for the dedicated trail rig. Installation is very simple if you already have a body lift. Some models, like the Rubicon with it’s larger NP241 transfer case, require the body lift. Most other models will work without it. Slight modifications to heat shields may be required if you plan to install our transfer case skid without a body lift. Another item that we recommend is a motor mount lift. This goes a long way to decrease rear driveline angles. It may actually keep you from needing a SYE (slip-yoke eliminator kit) and CV (double-cardan) rear driveshaft. A major advantage to our skid plate is that it gains you 2″ of ground clearance where you need it most. You would have to get tires 4″ larger in diameter to get the same clearance benefits as installing our skid. Order a transfer case skid today. They are a great way to increase you off-road capability and improve looks at the same time.
